The event honors Christopher Rose, a promising child stabbed to death at the age of 15 in 2005 when a gang of youth his own age tried to steal his friend’s iPod. We honor his memory and those of the many Christophers who died too young from violence. This is a very special event to prevent more Christophers.

Let me tell you about Seeds in the Middle, a charity I co-founded with Solomon Long. In 2009,  Mr. Long, then P.S. 91 principal for 18 years, told me kids had no organized sports options at a field right across from his school - Hamilton Metz Field  (Lefferts Park). There were limited opportunities for neighborhood youth to play organized sports nearby, or at least affordable ones, he told me. Public funding had dried up and parents were working hard just to make ends meet. They worried constantly about the lack of activities and safety for their children. As a former Daily News reporter, I had seen situations like this far too often. Together, we created Seeds in the Middle and Hip2B Healthy, named by P.S. 91 fourth graders - programs now making healthy choices for Crown Heights residents easy, accessible and affordable. We started Crown Heights first youth soccer in fall 2009 to engage children and provide active, fun teamwork.

Since then, over 500 players, ages 4-14, and parents have played with us. But we need community help to grow and provide access to those who can’t afford to participate.

Here’s a chance to promote your business and help neighborhood kids at the same time. We are a federal 501(c)3 charity so your donation is tax-deductible.  We are now training the first Crown Heights Soccer Eagles  - under the leadership of former professional player, Joe Cabral, of Sporting Lisbon (Portugal), trained at the same academy as Cristiano Ronaldo,. We start indoor programs in December and move back outdoors in spring.  Your sponsorship of Soccer for Harmony is crucial to provide this once in a lifetime creation of quality soccer and healthy options to low-income youth.

Please become a sponsor of our Soccer for Peace event. Your dollars will help us:
Expand, reach at least 100 more kids and provide scholarships for needy children
Pay our coaches and for clinics so parents can learn to be coaches
Buy equipment like goals, cones and for uniforms for players
You will get, according to your level of sponsorship:
Your business name on team shirts and event banners
High visibility in the community and online publicity reaching over 5,000 families
Logo on seedsinthemiddle.org and the Crown Heights Soccer Eagles website

Research shows that children who exercise score higher on standardized tests, have enhanced well-being, and less attention deficits. They are our future. Help make the future bright. Call us at 917-756-4202.
